St. Paul’s took down Boy’s Latin on May 5 in both teams’ regular season final game. The Crusaders dominant third quarter put the game out of Latin’s reach, taking the 12-10 victory.
Entering the game, St. Paul’s held a 12-5 record, sitting in 19th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 7th in Maryland. The Lakers went into the contest with a 14-3 record, placing them 6th in the nation and 3rd in MD.
The score seesawed early on, leading to a 3-3 tie midway through the second quarter. Right before the end of the half, David Milchling converted to give St. Paul’s a 4-3 advantage, a lead the Crusaders never lost, with just eight seconds left.
Picking up where it left off, St. Paul’s scored the first three goals of the third and took a 10-5 into the fourth quarter.
Despite a five-goal fourth, Boys’ Latin was unable to fully close the gap on St. Paul’s, as the Crusaders walked away with a two-goal lead.
Leading the Crusaders to victory was Alex McGovern who finished with five goals. Fellow co-captain, Carter Flaig, added on another two goals. Joe Pollard also had a couple of scores himself.
With this win, St. Paul’s secures the No. 2-seed in the MIAA A Conference, sent straight to the semifinals.
Boys’ Latin will face Loyola Blakefield on May 8.
